How to Get Rid of Gnats in Your Dawsonville Home

What can be worse than finding out your Dawsonville rental house has a gnat problem? Gnats may not bite or carry diseases, but they shouldn’t be present in a clean home. If ripe fruit, trash bags, and even potting soil are around, you can be sure these pests are as well. They seem to pop out from nowhere and can be difficult to remove. But there are effective ways to keep these gnats away from your house for good.

Apple Cider Vinegar: One of the best ways to eliminate gnats without harsh chemicals is to use a mixture of apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, and dish soap. The sugar attracts the gnats and the soap traps them. Look for a place where gnats gather and leave this small bowl of the mixture there.

Fly Paper: Looking for an effective and low-cost method of getting rid of gnats? Flypaper is the answer. Although these sticky flypaper ribbons may not be pleasant to the eyes, they work very well trapping these insects in your home.

Bleach the Drains: If you notice a lot of gnats around the sink drains, you may have drain flies. Pour the affected drains with a solution of bleach and water to rid your house and drain of these pests. Sit back and relax and watch your sink become gnat-free.

Rotten Fruit: Ripe fruits that are present in your house is an invitation to gnats. So one way we can get rid of gnats is to use it against them. Place a piece of ripe or rotten fruit in a bowl and cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Using a toothpick, poke a few small holes in the plastic. With this method, the flies can get in but cannot get out. You can then remove the bowl from the house with the trapped flies inside.

Wine Trap: If you have some expired wine handy, you can use it to trap pesky gnats the same way. Mix the wine and dish soap in a small bowl. Leave the mixture in the part of the house where there are plenty of gnats. Lured by the scent, the gnats get trapped in the wine solution. All you have to do next is remove it.

Bug Zapper: A more aggressive way of getting rid of gnats is by using a bug zapper device. Bug zappers come in different kinds but they mostly use electricity to zap flies, mosquitoes, and other flying insects. All you have to do next is to find an out-of-the-way spot and plug the zapper there.

Chemical Spray: For the gnat problems that are seriously out of control, you’ll have to resort to using an insecticide in order to get rid of the gnats. Two products– the foggers and sprays– can remove the gnats in a breeze but should be handled with care. Always follow the manufacturer’s directions when using chemical insecticides.

With these solutions in removing gnats, there is probably one that is right for your pest problem. Are you interested in learning more about how to keep your rental house pest-free?
